TROUBLESHOOTING ADVICE
FABRIC TEAR OR YARN DAMAGE
CAUSE: THICK NEEDLE

Remedy:
Change needle to a thinner one

CAUSE: SHARP-EDGE NEEDLE

Remedy:
Use needle with ball point (SUK type)

CAUSE: HARSH OR NOT WELL FINISHED FABRIC

Remedy:
Apply silicon oil on thread

FABRIC BURNING
CAUSE: HIGH NEEDLE TEMPERATURE

Remedy:

  • Use a special needle (i.e. GROZ-BECKERT MR)
  • Consult BRILLANT for a different type of thread.
  • Apply air cooling draft parallel to needle direction

DIFFICULTIES WITH ELASTIC FABRICS
CAUSE: DAMAGE OF ELASTIC YARN

Remedy:

  • Use needle with ball point (SUK type)
  • Sew in parallel with the direction of the fabric yarns

CAUSE: FABRIC PUCKERING

Remedy:
Use spun polyester or corespun threads instead of cotton

NEEDLE THREAD BREAKAGE
CAUSE: MISALIGNED OFFWINDING FROM THREAD PACKAGE

Remedy:
Ensure overhead guide is directly above cone at 3 times the cone height

CAUSE: TRAPPING AT PACKAGE BASE

Remedy:
Use foam pad underneath cone to prevent trapping after thread break

CAUSE: THREAD TRAPPED AT THREAD GUIDE

Remedy:
Occuring after thread break. Rethread correctly.

CAUSE: SNARLING BEFORE TENSION DISK

Remedy:
Increase wraps on pretension guides and reduce disc tension. Ensure disks are smooth.

CAUSE: VERY THIN NEEDLE

Remedy:

  • Use thinner thread of appropriate tenacity or thicker needle
  • Use special needle (i.e. GROZ-BECKERT MR)

CAUSE: HIGH NEEDLE TEMPERATURE

Remedy:

  • Change thread with a temperature absorbent thread
  • Apply air cooling draft parallel to needle direction
  • Apply silicon oil on thread
  • Improve fabric finish

CAUSE: DAMAGED NEEDLE

Remedy:
Change needle

CAUSE: HIGH THREAD TENSION

Remedy:
Adjust thread tension to a lower value

CAUSE: DEFECTIVE PARTS OF SEWING MACHINE

Remedy:
Change the deffective parts in contact with the thread (throat plate, hook point, needle guard, bobbin case, disks)

CAUSE: POOR QUALITY THREAD

Remedy:
Change to better quality sewing thread

BOBBIN OR LOOPER THREAD BREAKAGE
CAUSE: BADLY WOUND THREAD

Remedy:
Adjust bobbin winder alignment.

CAUSE: TENSION TOO TIGHT

Remedy:
Adjust bobbin case tension

CAUSE: SHARP EDGES ON BOBBIN

Remedy:
Polish edges and contact surfaces

CAUSE: CASE OR LOOPER EYELET BOBBIN CASE NOT FITTING CORRECTLY

Remedy:
Check size/type of bobbin

THREAD FUSING WHEN MACHINE STOPS
CAUSE: POOR FABRIC FINISH

Remedy:

  • Improve fabric finish
  • Change to more suitable needle
  • Apply air draft to cool the needle

CAUSE: DAMAGED NEEDLE

Remedy:
Change needle

CAUSE: POOR QUALITY THREAD

Remedy:
Change to better quality sewing thread

SKIP STITCHING
CAUSE: HIGH VIBRATION OR DEFLECTION OF NEEDLE

Remedy:

  • Change needle type
  • Replace needle

CAUSE: HIGH ELASTICITY OF FABRIC

Remedy:

  • Use thinner needle
  • Use thinner plate

CAUSE: INCORRECT NEEDLE SIZE / TYPE

Remedy:
Change needle size / type

CAUSE: VERY THIN THREAD IN RELATION TO THE NEEDLE

Remedy:

  • Use thinner needle
  • Use thicker thread

CAUSE: FLAGGING OF FABRIC

Remedy:

  • Readjust foot pressure
  • Change the throat plate to match the needle

CAUSE: OPPOSITE OR BAD THREAD TWISTING

Remedy:
Change thread to one with suitable characteristics

CAUSE: WRONG THREAD TENSION

Remedy:
Adjust needlethread or underthread tension

CAUSE: POOR THREAD LOOP FORMATION

Remedy:
Change sewing thread

CAUSE: POOR QUALITY THREAD

Remedy:
Change to better quality sewing thread

CAUSE: STATIC ELECTRICITY

Remedy:
Change to better quality sewing thread

CAUSE: FAILURE OF HOOK, LOOPER OR NEEDLE TO ENTER THREAD LOOPS AT CORRECT TIME

Remedy:

  • Check insertion & alignment of needle
  • Use needle with deeper scarf
  • Check machine clearances

CAUSE: EXCESSIVE HOOK VIBRATION

Remedy:
Check clearance between needle and hook

VARIABLE STITCHING
CAUSE: INCORRECT THREAD TENSIONS

Remedy:

  • Adjust thread tensions
  • Rethread the machine
  • Check contact surfaces between thread and machine parts

CAUSE: POOR FABRIC FEED CONTROL

Remedy:

  • Change to better quality sewing thread
  • Increase foot pressure
  • Change to more positive feed mechanism

STEAM PUCKERING
CAUSE: DIFFERENCE IN ELASTICITY BETWEEN FABRIC & THREAD

Remedy:

  • Use a thread of similar elasticity to that of the fabric
  • Adjust thread tension to a lower value

CAUSE: WARP SUCTION FROM THE NEEDLE

Remedy:

  • Change stitch type from lockstitch to chainstitch
  • Sew under angle of 15ο-45ο or even parallel

CAUSE: SLIPPAGE BETWEEN THE 2 FABRICS

Remedy:
Train the operator

CAUSE: VARIABLE FABRIC FEED

Remedy:

  • Improve fabric feed mechanism
  • Increase foot pressure

SEWING THREAD BREAK IN JEANS STONEWASHING
CAUSE: LOW THREAD ABRASION

Remedy:
Change type of thread from cotton to spun polyester or corespun

CAUSE: RESISTANCE IN STONEWASHING

Remedy:
Pay attention to the sewing of the exposed stitches

FABRIC PUCKERING IN GARMENT WASHING
CAUSE: DIFFERENCE IN SHRINKAGE BETWEEN FABRIC & THREAD
